Italian: Vocabulary



These videos give you some basic vocabulary in Italian. The videos on the other pages have many more vocabulary in addition to the grammar lessons. I would recommend watching those as well. These are more “themed” videos in order to teach people some basic vocab.

The Colors: From Florence!

 

Colors – colori, green – verde, red – rosso, white – bianco, blue – azurro, yellow – giallo, purple – porpora, orange – arancio, black – nero

Plural Nouns: Lugano, Switzerland

 

Masculine Nouns

Nouns with –o ending in singular change to –i, for example Il telefono – the telephone, i telefoni the telephones

Nouns with – e endings in singular change to –i, for examples il cane (the dog), i cani (the dogs)

Nouns with –a endings in singular change to –i for example il sistema (the system), i sistemi (the systems)

Feminine Nouns

Nouns with –a endings in singular change to –e, for example la scuola (the school), le scuole

Nouns with –e endings in singular change to –i, for example la chiave (the key), le chiavi (the keys)

Nouns with –tá endings in singular stay the same, la libertá (the liberty), le libertá (the liberties)

Nouns with –tú endings in singular stay the same, la virtú (the virtue), le virtú (the virtues)

Nouns with –i endings in singular stay the same, la crisi (the crisis), le crisi (the crises)

Nouns with –o endings in singular change to –i, la mano (the hand), le mani (the hands)

Irregular Noun endings in Plural

Masculine

Verbs ending in –io, change to –i or –ii, for example il figlio (the son), i figli (the sons), or lo zio (the uncle), gli zii (the uncles)

Verbs ending in – co or –go change to –ci/chi and gi/ghi for example il medico (the doctor) I medici (the doctors), l’albergo (the hotel), gli alberghi (the hotels)


Italian Adjectives

Good – buon, Bad – male

Tall – alto, short – basso

Fat – grasso, skinny – magro

Pretty – bello, ugly – brutto

Smart – intelligente, stupid – stupid

Fast – veloce, slow – lento

Young – giovane, old – vecchio

New – nuovo, old – vecchio

Happy – felice, sad – triste, mad – arrabbiato

Hot – caldo, cold – freddo

Early – presto, late – tardi

Big – grande, small – piccolo

Dirty – sporco, clean – pulito

Tasty – saporito
